UPDATE May 1, 2021
Paschal Vigil: We will be celebrating the Nocturn, which is the first part of the Paschal Vigil, inside the church, starting at 10pm. Everyone above 5 years old will be masked while we are inside. Doors and windows will be open for ventilation. After the procession, we will proceed to our outdoor liturgy location for the Matins and Divine Liturgy of Pascha, where masks will be optional; the priest will wear a mask during the distribution of the Eucharist. Anyone who is uncomfortable being inside is welcome to stand outside the church during Nocturn. You should be able to hear with the doors and windows open. You can join the procession and proceed with us to the outdoor liturgy. After the liturgy we will set up tables for our feast outside.
Agape Vespers: After Agape Vespers on Sunday at 2pm, we will have an egg hunt for the children and meal for everyone. The meal is being provided by a friend of the parish. Roasted lamb, rice, fattoush salad, roasted potatoes, hummus, cucumber yogurt sauce, and bread will be provided. You may bring sweets or extra things to share, but there will be quite a lot of food provided for all.
We continue to live-stream services on the parish YouTube channel.
Saint Nicholas of Myra Orthodox Christian Church, formed in 2002, is a mission parish of the Orthodox Church in America’s Diocese of the Midwest. We hold services in a small white house that was donated to the parish in 2013 and which we remodeled for liturgical use during the summer of 2014. We are now raising funds to build a permanent Orthodox temple.
We work to provide a daily presence of prayer and Orthodox teaching in the heart of Lawrence. We have a weekly study group, active catechumenate, and sponsor the Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) at the University of Kansas. Our OCF is a vibrant group of undergraduate and graduate students. Over the years we have had students from all over the country and from abroad. We meet regularly while university is in session for meals and discussion.
