UPDATE January 7, 2020: Unless the weather happens to turn warmer, we will plan to be inside for liturgy through February, so we will need to use our sign-up system again. As we have been doing when inside, we will keep households six feet apart and everyone over five years old will wear a mask. We can accommodate fifteen people inside and roughly five people, or one large household, on the side porch, where we have two patio heaters. We will have windows partially opened for ventilation as well as the door to the porch for those standing outside. We continue to live-stream services on the parish YouTube channel.
Saint Nicholas of Myra Orthodox Christian Church, formed in 2002, is a mission parish of the Orthodox Church in America’s Diocese of the Midwest. We hold services in a small white house that was donated to the parish in 2013 and which we remodeled for liturgical use during the summer of 2014. We are now raising funds to build a permanent Orthodox temple.
We work to provide a daily presence of prayer and Orthodox teaching in the heart of Lawrence. We have a weekly study group, active catechumenate, and sponsor the Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) at the University of Kansas. Our OCF is a vibrant group of undergraduate and graduate students. Over the years we have had students from all over the country and from abroad. We meet regularly while university is in session for meals and discussion.
